3 ‘Left Behind Children’ Drown, Devastates Migrant Worker Family

From iFeng:

Three “Left Behind” Brothers & Sister Drown

On June 26, at about 1pm, a tragedy happened in Nanchang City Honggutan New District Shengmi Town Wenqing Village. Left Behind Children [children of migrant workers who remains in their parents' hometowns often with grandparents or relatives while their parents find work in other parts of the country to support the family]—2 brothers and a sister—drowned while playing by the pool of water/pond/reservoir of water at the entrance of the village. Because no one had passed by at the time, it wasn’t until the body of the 5-year-old boy surfaced that people found out. This picture [above] is of the grandmother of the 3 brothers and sister crying her heart out in front of 3 refrigerated coffins.
The grandmother is crying her heart out.
As it is understood, the oldest of them was 10-year-old boy Luo Zhikun, along with the 9-year-old sister Luo Danni, and the 5-year-old little brother Luo Zhimo. Both Luo Zhikun and Luo Danni were in their 3rd grade at elementary school, while the 5-year-old little brother Luo Zhimo was still in kindergarten. The area of the pond in which the tragedy took place is about 20-30 mu [unit of area, 1 mu=0.0667 hectare], and is located at the entrance of the village. The grandmother’s house is was located in the first row [of buildings] by the entrance of the village, and is the closest house to the pond. On the early morning of the 26th, after the grandmother made breakfast for the whole family, she even reminded her granddaughter Luo Danni that she and her big brother should return home with their little brother as soon as they finish their tests. She never thought that these would be the last words she would say to her grandchildren.
The grandmother is crying her heart out.
According to the family members of the deceased children, the parents of the three brothers and sister used to work around the neighborhood, and were able to look after the children. But ever since last year, they have been working in a hotel in Zhuhai of Guangdong province, and the grandparents have become the ones who take care of the children. “Their grandfather is bedridden, although the grandmother is in good health, but she’s getting old.” According to the uncles of the deceased children, they heard that their older nephew and niece returned home after they finished the final tests, had called out for their grandmother, but found that she wasn’t home, so they along with their little brother went to play with water by the pond.

“The 3 kids are all gone, we don’t even dare to tell their parents, we told them that only one of their kids drowned,” said the children’s relatives. The parents of the deceased children are currently rushing back.

Alleged iPhone 5S Batteries Photographed on Production Line

French site Nowhereelse.fr shares [Google translation] a photo of what are claimed to be trays of batteries for the iPhone 5S coming off of a production line. While their identity as iPhone 5S batteries can not be confirmed due to a lack of markings on them, if the claim is true it would be further evidence that production is indeed ramping up for the next-generation iPhone.

Our photos show that the battery in the prototype iPhone 5S is itself a prototype, with a number of placeholders for various regulatory logos and identification numbers.

Earlier this week, a photo of iPhone 5S display assemblies on a production line also appeared, with the new parts identifiable by a change in the design of the flex cable connectors.

The iPhone 5S is expected to be introduced later this year, with the September timeframe being the most commonly claimed window for launch.

Rich Girl Shows Off Her Drugs to Handsome Policeman on Train

Rich Girl Shows Off Her Drugs to Handsome Policeman on Train

A girl behind bar.
From NetEase:

Rich Girl Chats Up & Shows Off Drugs to Man on Train, Who Turns Out to be a Plainclothes Police Officer

June 5, at about 2:00 pm, on the G7207 train from Wuxi to Shanghai, a Nanjing girl intentionally chatted up the “handsome guy” next to her, and in order to get his attention, the girl spoke passed herself off as frank and self-assured, eventually even taking out a bag of illegal drugs to flaunt her lifestyle as being “fashionable”, never expecting that the handsome guy next to her was actually a plainclothes police officer of the Nanjing Railway Station Branch.
As it is understood, on June 5th, three Nanjing Railway Station Branch railway police officers took the G7207 train to Shanghai. As it was a business trip, all three of them were in plain clothes. Among them, Xiao Wang is a young policeman who had just joined last year. After boarding the train, Xiao Wang’s seat the aisle seat in a row of two and after taking his seat, Xiao Wang began flipping through the train’s magazine. However, he felt there was a girl next to him who kept looking at him, so Xiao Wang glanced over and sure enough, the female passenger next to him was faintly smiling at him. Xiao Wang was embarrassed and immediately lowered his head and kept reading, but then this girl started talking to him. Xiao Wang took a closer look at the girl before his eyes. She was well dressed, with make-up, and even her handbag was a luxury brand. The female passenger seemed to really want to talk to him, but being shy in nature, Xiao Wang’s replies were all brief, which instead made the girl take the initiative even more.
The girl claimed that her last name was Du, 20 years of age, was from Nanjing, and in order to break the awkward atmosphere, she began talking about eating, drinking, and having fun with Xiao Wang. When she heard that Xiao Wang had never been to a bar, she was very surprised. She thought that Xiao Wang was very handsome and full of youth, and didn’t look like someone who doesn’t enjoy nightlife. When Xiao Wang said he really has never been to such entertainment venues, and in order to show that she was carefree and light-hearted with a fashionable lifestyle, Du talked about the many well-known entertainment venues in Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Shanghai as if they were her own treasures. Du also mentioned that she had just partied with friends in Wuxi and was now heading to Shanghai to continue partying. Seeing a surprised look on Xiao Wang’s face, Du continued to show off her colorful nightlife, and suddenly said mysteriously that if a person wanted to have even more fun, one thing was very important. Xiao Wang immediately became suspicious and, with his investigative disposition, asked what it was. Du looked to the left and right, then took out a white plastic package from a sleeve of her wallet, and whispered to Xiao Wang that it was some heroin her friends gave her last night. She planned to use the rest of the heroin in Shanghai that night. Seeing Xiao Wang’s surprised expression, Du continued hitting on him and invited Xiao Wang to party with him in Shanghai at night, promising to pay for all the expenses. At this point, railway policeman Xiao Wang excused himself, text messaged his nearby colleagues, and took the girl away from her seat for questioning.
Upon investigation, Du doesn’t have a criminal record, her parents do business in Nanjing, and their family is well-off. Du had gone abroad for studies but didn’t want to go to school anymore after two years, whereby she returned to Nanjing to work at her parent’s company, though she normally doesn’t go to work either, instead going to nightclubs with friends at night, and sleeping in at home during the day. On June 4, at a Wuxi friend’s invitation, she partied all night, and took G7207 train to Shanghai at noon on the 5th. After boarding, she spotted the “handsome guy” siting next to her. She felt this guy was different from the other guys that were often around her and immediately had a certain fondness for him. She approached him, and in order to let “handsome guy” Xiao Wang know more about her “wonderful life”, Du spoke of a lot of things that she thought Xiao Wang didn’t know about, eventually taking out the heroin to show off. But to her surprise, this shy “handsome guy” in front of her eyes was a policeman. Now it was too late for her to regret it. It has been confirmed that Du was carrying 2 grams of heroin.

Philips launches HTL9100 Fidelio soundbar with detachable speakers

DNP Philips Fidelio soundbar
Philips announced the HTL9100 soundbar as part of its Fidelio lineup at this year's CES, and now it's available for $1,077 (£699) at retail. Like Voltron, the soundbar comes with detachable parts, particularly two wireless speakers that you can place behind or beside you for true surround sound. These battery-powered satellite components can run for 10 hours straight, after which they need to be reconnected with the main hub to be recharged. The 5.1 system plays media from devices connected via Bluetooth or HDMI and also features a separate wireless subwoofer. Compared to more affordable competition like Vizio's soundbar and the Sonos Playbar its higher cost is a hurdle, but the quirky wireless surround feature may make it worth trying out.

Overseas Chinese Students Attacked in France, Reactions

Overseas Chinese Students Attacked in France, Reactions

Chinese students learning about wine.
On NetEase:

French Media Claims One of the Chinese Overseas Students That Were Attacked in France is a Former [Chinese] Mayor’s Daughter

Global Times Comprehensive Report – Six Chinese overseas students currently studying in the western France region of Bordeaux were attacked by three thugs, with one of the girls suffering serious head injuries. Multiple eyewitnesses claim the drunk criminal suspects made racist remarks during the attack. After the incident, French Interior Minister Manuel Valls issued a statement condemning the violence: “This incident is a serious xenophobic act, and the culprits must be investigated by the law.” France’s Le Nouvel Observateur commented saying that Chinese tourists often suffering robbery and incidents of violence in Paris has already resulted in criticisms of France’s tourist safety problems, while China is currently the third largest consumer nation of France’s grape wines, possibly becoming the second largest market in 2016. That this anti-foreigner attack coincidentally happened on the day before the inauguration of the Bordeaux Vinexpo [world's main wine expo] was regrettable. Agence France Presse claimed during a background analysis of the incident that Chinese investors wantonly purchasing Bordeaux vinyards “doesn’t always make the locals happy”, while French winemakers are also unhappy with China’s recent anti-dumping investigations of French wine.
The moment the Chinese overseas student opened the door, the two violently attacked.
According to France’s Le Nouvel Observateur‘s report on the 15th, the six Chinese study abroad students have been studying at a winery school located in the Gironde province, and they live in the small town of Hostens just 50 kilometers away from Bordeaux with only a population of 1300. On the night of the 14th, when police visited the three drunk local men due to “late night noise”, the three men believed it was their Chinese neighbors who had reported them. After the police left, at least two of the three went to knock on the door of the Chinese overseas students’ residence. The moment a Chinese overseas student opened the door, the two violently attacked. In the struggle as the overseas students tried to push them out the door, a 24-year-old girl’s head was hit by a thrown glass bottle, seriously injuring her. She has already been sent to Bordeaux for medical treatment.
Although they were intoxicated, they were clearly aware of the identities of the Chinese study abroad students, using racist insults during the attack.
France’s Sud Ouest quoted local residents that the three suspects had been drinking late into the night outdoors on a bench. Local residents claim, “They were probably looking to cause trouble with anyone”. At present, the two main suspects have already been detained by police, while the third suspect is about to be summoned. Police have a file on the three. Police investigations show that the two attackers were extremely violent during the incident. Although they were intoxicated, they were clearly aware of the identities of the Chinese study abroad students, using racist insults during the attack. Hostens town mayor Michel Viallesoubranne expressed shock, saying: “The Chinese overseas students living in the town are 3 boys and 8 girls, a total of 11 people, who are all very well-behaved. They’ve already well integrated into life in the small town!” French Interior Minister Valls expressed on the 15th that he shares the sorrow of the overseas Chinese students’ family as well as gives them his complete support. The Education Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in France told this Global Times reporter that the Chinese Embassy in France strongly condemns this violent attack on Chinese overseas students, has already requested the relevant French departments to investigate the matter as soon as possible, punish the perpetrators in accordance with the law, and adopt appropriate measures to ensure the safety of Chinese overseas students.
“Some French people are bringing shame upon France.”
A commentary on France’s Le Nouvel Observateur says Chinese tourists in Paris often suffering robbery and incidents of violence has already resulted in criticism of the safety problem for tourists in France. This Global Timesjournalist saw that most French netizens believe such xenophobic behavior should be severely denounced, calling for the punishment of the violent offenders. “Too frightening, the power of France’s extreme-right!” exclaimed one netizen. Another netizens said alcohol and xenophobia are France’s two major scourges. A comment read: “Now 1.3 billion Chinese all know about Hostens, this truly is a disgrace! Some French people are bringing shame upon France.” However, there are also people who believe this incident is just an ordinary drunk “neighbors dispute” that doesn’t need to be elevated to “xenophobic violence” and hopes this incident won’t harm France’s traditional image of hospitality.
“They do not deserve sympathy, foreigners severely punish corruption, so them suffering attacks in France was deserved.”
However, some French media’s reporting of this incident has made people angry. A report by France’sLe Monde on the 15th with the headline “Chinese Apathetic Towards Attack on Overseas Students” claimed that one of the overseas students that was attacked is the daughter of a former city mayor, and thus an “official second-generation” [child of a government official]. The report used half of its space analyzing China’s “corruption” problem, claiming that Chinese netizens are filled with hate and resentment against the sons and daughters of high officials who go abroad to study. The article claims “in China, the children of the elite and government officials usually spend large amounts of money to study abroad, and Chinese netizens are mostly critical of this kind of phenomenon. Some people have even commented ‘they do not deserve sympathy, foreigners severely punish corruption, so them suffering attacks in France was deserved’.” A report by the UK’s BBC on the 16th with the headline “Outrage after assault on Chinese students in France” claims that on China’s widely popular Sina Weibo microblogging service, the majority of netizens criticized and expressed outrage. However, the article also says that some residents in the Bordeaux wine-producing region “resent” buyers from China [of local vineyards].
French officials have recently announced that cracking down on robbery and violent attacks targeting Asian tourists is the current number one priority.
Over the past few years, with economic and social problems in France intensifying, the extreme-right has rearing its head and expanding its influence, and spillover effects from the socio-economic problems of certain central and eastern European countries, the state of public safety has continuously worsened for “Old Europe” France. Radio France on the 15th claimed that in the past few months, multiple robberies and attacks targeting Chinese citizens have occurred, arousing discussion amongst Chinese nationals. In March, a 23-person tour group from China were robbed and attacked right after arriving in Paris and exiting the airport. To solve the public security problem, French officials have recently announced that cracking down on robbery and violent attacks targeting Asian tourists is the current number one priority. TheLe Monde article says that after the attack on the overseas students, many Chinese believe France is currently becoming “a dangerous country”, with some saying “if you want to go abroad, you should do your best to avoid France, and choose those better countries.”

iOS 7: 'All the Leaks Are Wrong'

iOS 7: 'All the Leaks Are Wrong'

On this week's episode of his The Talk Show podcast, Daring Fireball's John Gruber shares a few tidbits he's heard about Apple's plans for its new software being unveiled at WWDC tomorrow.

Gruber, who has a number of times in the past been able to share bits of information due to his connections within Apple, notes that he has heard very little about Apple's plans this time around but that one source has indicated "all the leaks are wrong" with respect to iOS 7.

ios_7_banner_graphic
Even Gruber is not entirely sure what that statement means, but iOS 7 has been widely rumored to be adopting a flatter look now that Jony Ive has replaced Scott Forstall in heading up the Human Interface aspects of Apple's software.
I know almost absolutely nothing. I don't think I've been this ignorant of what's coming, software-wise, for a keynote since the iPhone 1 back in 2007. Which is great...I'm super excited. [...]

The one thing I keep hearing over and over again from friends who would know is...the one word I keep hearing is that some of the stuff they're going to show is "polarizing".

And I also heard from somebody that just "all the leaks are wrong". Which is interesting. I have no idea what to make of it.
The keynote for tomorrow's Worldwide Developers Conference kicks off tomorrow at 10:00 AM Pacific Time. As noted in our rumor roundup, Apple will almost certainly be focusing the event on software with its upcoming iOS 7 and OS X 10.9, although the company may also introduce new services such as "iRadio" and new hardware such as updated notebooks and perhaps even redesigned Mac Pro models.

Prostitutes’ Used Condoms Found Daily in Guangdong Green Belt

Prostitutes’ Used Condoms Found Daily in Guangdong Green Belt

Some street women are being taken into the police car.
From IFeng:

Guangdong Streetwalkers Doing Business in Green Belt, Sanitation Workers Claim to Have Cleaned Up Over a Hundred Condoms During the Day

On the evening of June 4, at 8:30 pm, Guangdong Foshan ChanCheng Police assembled over 60 officers and conducted a raid along the approximately 2-kilometer stretch of road along Foshan Avenue (Jihua Road-Tangtou Overpass), arresting 13 streetwalkers [prostitutes/whores who solicit business on the streets]. According to police officer Chen of Tongji Local Police Station, this raid is the first large-scale raid of the year. This picture [above] is of the arrested street women in this raid. Photo: Zhang Mingshu.

Chancheng Police say this green belt has thick bushes, and the lights here are dim. This place was cleared out years ago, and normally there are daily patrols along the road, and plain-clothes officers are dispatched to raid here from time to time, so the phenomenon of streetwalkers has already become scarce. “However, due to the rise in recent temperatures, the streetwalkers have ‘returned’. ” This picture is of the streetwalkers arrested during the crackdown. Photo: Zhang Mingshu.

At night, under these trees, street women “do business” right where they are. During the day, used condoms numbering over a hundred discarded on the lawn wait for sanitation workers to clean them up. According to reports, this kind of situation has existed for many years, the sanitation workers loudly complaining that they “can’t take it anymore”. Whereas the residents around this area are so scared that they have to take a detour avoiding this road whenever they take a walk. This picture is of the streetwalkers arrested in this raid. To the east of the intersection between Foshan Avenue and Jihua Road of Chancheng District, there is a large green belt, and along its 350-meter-long lawn from Jihua Road to Yingyin Road, over a hundred used condoms are discovered every day.
Discarded used condoms.
This green belt is right next to Foshan Avenue, where the traffic is very heavy. By standing on the sidewalk, one can see every inch of the lawn of the green belt. Near the walls of the Foshan downtown blood bank, the bushes and lawn “hide” many condom packages, wrinkled tissues, and used condoms. This picture is of the randomly discarded used condoms.

Mr. Deng divulged that unless it’s a rainy day, there can be dozens to hundreds of “johns” every day, and even more on weekends. The streetwalkers’ workplace is right on the lawn. Mr. Lu of the nearby Jinziyuan residential community says: “Many times when passing by, I’ve discovered them in the green belt doing that.” According to reports, the streetwalkers’ hours of operation is from about 7:30pm to 4:00am the next morning. This picture is of the discarded used condoms.

According to nearby residents, most of the “customers” are single men. This reporter discovered during a visit that there are in total 4 construction sites around Lvjing Road, Foshan Car City, and the Jiangwan Overpass surrounding the green belt, while the urban villages [ghettos/shantytowns] such as Tangtou Village, Pan Village, and Jian Village also have many single men without wives nor their own houses or live separate from their wives. WWDC Rumor Tidbits: Camera Filters and Motion Sensing in iOS 7, iRadio for Mac and Apple TV?

WWDC Rumor Tidbits: Camera Filters and Motion Sensing in iOS 7, iRadio for Mac and Apple TV?

wwdcIn a roundup of what to expect at next week's World Wide Developers Conference, 9to5Mac has released some new rumors concerning both iOS 7 and Apple's upcoming streaming music service, "iRadio."

Alongside the standard iOS 7 rumors, the site suggests that Apple has been experimenting with camera filters for its built-in camera app, like those used in many third party camera apps such as Instagram.
We understand that while many iOS engineers are excited about the potential of filters being built-in to the iPhone's camera app, some Apple executives are not as fond of the feature. With that in mind, we are not sure if filters will make this year's release.
In addition to experimenting with camera features, Apple is also said to be testing new motion technology, which could be used to shift objects on the screen based on device orientation.
We have heard whispers that Apple is testing new technologies could move on-screen objects based on the iOS device hardware being moved in-air. For example, app icons could slightly shift depending on the angle that the iPhone is being in held. The technology is similar to what allows the iOS 6 volume controls to rotate based on the iPhone being moved. We are not sure if this feature will make the cut for iOS 7, but the development of this technology is nonetheless intriguing.
As far as Apple's upcoming streaming music service is concerned, 9to5Mac suggests that it could potentially be offered as a pre-installed standalone app alongside iOS 7, but other options include a separate app users would have to download from the App Store or incorporating the service into the existing Music app. There are also rumors that the music service could also be brought to both the Mac and the Apple TV in the future.
We have also heard that Apple has expressed interest to record labels about expanding the streaming music service beyond iOS devices. Without sharing specifics, Apple mentioned that it would like to integrate the service into a tweaked version of iTunes and the Apple TV's software.
iOS 7, which is said to feature a total redesign, will be unveiled next monday during Apple's WWDC keynote. Apple is also pushing for a WWDC release of its streaming music service, though it is unclear if the company will be able to achieve that goal.

MacRumors has a detailed roundup that includes more information on what to expect at next week's presentation, including OS X 10.9 and new MacBooks.

WSJ: NSA snooping extends to AT&T, Sprint and other ISPs

Just in case you thought not being a Verizon customer meant you weren't covered by yesterday's report of widespread NSA logging, the Wall Street Journal says the program extends much wider. Citing "people familiar with the NSA's operations," it stated phone call metadata is also being collected from AT&T and Sprint, along with data from other ISPs and even credit card purchase info. Members of Congress have come out today stating that the program -- an evolution ofwarrantless wiretapping that began after the Patriot Act was enacted -- has been ongoing for several years and must be renewed every three months by Congress.

Little Boy Stops Suicidal Mom Even After She Cut His Neck

Little Boy Stops Suicidal Mom Even After She Cut His Neck

6-Year-Old Boy Lying on the Floor With His Mom Whom He Stopped From Committing Suicide Even After Being Cut by Her.
From iFeng & Sohu:

6-Year-Old Boy Has Neck Cut By Mother, Falls on Ground; Upon Seeing Her About to Kill Herself, Endures Pain and Wrestles Knife Away

On the morning of June 5, a Jiaxing city Haining county netizen reported that a mother prepared to commit suicide after slashing her son’s neck only to have the perceptive son, in order to save his mother, ignore his own injury, get up, and try to wrestle the knife away from his mother. During the struggle for the knife, the son’s hands were cut by the sharp knife. Perhaps as a result of love reawakening reason, the mother subsequently called the police.
At present, after emergency medical treatment and surgery, both mother and son are out of life-threatening danger.
Call in the Morning to Ex-Husband: “I’m Dying, And Your Son’s Already Dead”
After this Zhejiang Online reporter gathered information from the Haining police and hospital, it was roughly understood that the mother is surnamed Zhan, is 34 years old, and from Chunan.
Zhan’s temper is very poor, and often had fights with ex-husband Shi and his family members over minor family issues, even shouting threats to kill herself by jumping off the building or writing giant words on their apartment’s walls. If 6-year-old son Xiao Yu didn’t do things her way, she would hit him with a stick.
As a result of the couple not getting along, Zhan and her ex-husband divorced in 2010, with custody of the son given to the husband. Before the divorce, Zhan worked in a Haining factory. After the divorce, Zhan didn’t leave her ex-husband’s home, but instead made a place for herself to sleep and continued to live there for half a year.
In April of this year, Zhan once again returned to her ex-husband’s place, made a place for herself to sleep in the car shed, and lived there for a while. Her son Xiao Yu would live there with her sometimes.
Yesterday [June 4], after yet another trifle, Zhan had an argument with her mother-in-law, and in her anger, she went to the kindergarten, picked up and left with her son.
It was only when Shi went to pick up his child that he found out from the teacher that his son had been picked up by the mother. He called Zhan but could not get through. Given that there had been incidents before where Zhan had taken their son out without returning the entire night, even leaving for as long as over 20 days without returning home, the family did not think much of it at the time.
Until this morning [June 5], when Zhan called and said something to the effect of “I’m dying, and your son is already dead”. Shi has said such angry and spiteful words before, so Shi ignored her and hung up the phone.
Then Zhan called her father-in-law, and her father-in-law also paid her no attention.
It wasn’t until Shi received another call from Zhan and could hear the sound of an ambulance from the other end that he realized that something bad happened. At the time, he just thought it was his ex-wife having attempted suicide, but never in his dreams would he have thought she might lay her hands on their child. Until he rushed to the hospital, saw his son lying on the stretcher, neck covered with blood, where he stood in shock.
Knife Used by Mom Who Scratched Her Son's Throat and Then Tried to Kill Herself.
The Son Has Already Regained Consciousness; In Good Mental State and No Serious Harm
Today [June 5], Xiaoyu was supposed to go to his kindergarten to take a class graduation photo. At a little past 5:00 in the morning, Zhan took her son to Dongshan Park, and used a 20-30 centimeter long fruit knife making a cut on Xiao Yu’s neck. Scared and frightened, Xiao Yu fell to the ground in pain, fresh blood flowing. As Zhan prepared to use the knife to cut her own neck, Xiao Yu struggled to yell, “Mom, don’t”, reaching out with his small hand trying to wrest away the knife in his mother’s hand, and during the struggle, Xiao Yu’s hand was also cut and wounded.
Perhaps it was her son’s plea that reawakened the mother’s reason [because] after Zhan made one cut on her neck, she stopped, and dialed 120 and 110 [emergency numbers for ambulance and police].
After the incident, Haining Police immediately dispatched police, and the ambulance also immediately took mother and son to hospital where after emergency treatment, the two of them are out of life-threatening danger.
According to the latest information from the hospital, Xiao Yu has already regained consciousness, is in a good mental state, and with no serious harm. Zhan too has been transferred to a regular room.
Inside Zhan’s handbag, police discovered more than ten suicide notes, saying things like “I am leaving and I am going to take this love with me too…”, reflecting Zhan’s world-weary state of mind.
